Vail Symposium

Published by david at 1:31 pm under Events

The 38th Vail Symposium is held this summer, 2009, and promises an incomparable combination of entertainment and education, including vital topics of interest to us all. The Symposium’s schedule for this year opens with a Forum on Sustainable Enterprise on June 3. Live via satellite, distinguished guests include Al Gore, Stuart L. Hart, H. Fisk Johnson, Ratan N. Tata, and others. This opening, the first of weekly events running through the end of September, sets the tone as we consider both national and global aspects, discuss ideas from across the nation about how our economy will take shape as we go forward with a new administration, how we can adopt truly “green” practices, and much more. With so rich an outline ahead, it’s likely you won’t want to miss any of these extraordinary sessions!

Musical events include the Performance Prelude series, featuring world- renown conductors and critics. Other topics include “Individual Rights in the Age of Terrorism, a session with representatives from the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian, Dr. Temple Grandin presenting “A Voice of Autism,” the 1946 film “La Belle et La Bete,” (The Beautiful and the Stupid) from Jean Cocteau, and the 2009 film “The Edge of Never” from William Kerig, a part of the Beaver Creek Summer Film Series. Topics also include “A New Role for Natural Resources”… As you can see, there’s something for minds and tastes of all kinds. It’s safe to say that no one will be bored by this summer’s Symposium!

Active Minds is a central theme in all of these events. One is both enriched and provoked by the topics. Most often, guests are likewise delighted and enthralled by the presentations. Don’t miss out on any of these outstanding offerings, many of which are free to the public, due to the generosity of the Symposium’s sponsors.
