ABOUT TAYLOR CARSON AND FRIENDS:

What do you get when you cross an acoustic guitar-playing singer-songwriter said to evoke Dave Matthews and John Mayer with a distinctive style of music that seamlessly blends rock, reggae, folk, bluegrass and funk influences? You get Arlington, VA-based Taylor Carson.

Taylor’s vocal abilities, guitar skills and memorable original music quickly established him as an up-and-coming talent in the Washington music scene, leading to opportunities to share the stage with reggae legends Toots and the Maytals in 2003, and Barenaked Ladies lead singer Ed Robertson in 2004.

Since the release of their first album, Taylor and the band have become an established presence on the East Coast music scene performing at a range of venues including those known for booking national acts like Iota Club and Café and the State Theatre in the Washington, DC area, the Lion’s Den in New York City and clubs in Philadelphia, Richmond, Atlanta, and more.

ABOUT DALA:
Amanda Walther and Sheila Carabine of Dala (the duo’s name was formed by combining the two last letters of each artist’s name) have come a long way in a short time. The two best friends, who met in their high school music class and wrote their first song together in 2002, have since performed at Toronto’s legendary Massey Hall a total of six times. Darlings of the Canadian music scene, Dala are now poised to bring their fresh brand of acoustic pop music to the world.

Drawing upon influences like The Beatles, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young and Bob Dylan, Dala write songs that are both catchy and insightful. Amanda’s ethereal soprano voice blends seamlessly with Sheila’s velvety alto, creating the lush harmonies that have become their trademark.

2010 VPAC Concert Series by Colin Hay

Published by Debbie under entertainment, music

Welcome to the 2010 VPAC Underground Sound Concert Series by Colin Hay to be held on October 14, 2010 from 7:30 PM at Vilar Performing Arts Center, Colorado.

About Colin Hay:

Men at Work made him famous, “Scrubs’’ gave his solo music and acting careers a boost, and his newest release, “American Sunshine’’, sheds light on his musings about the American dream. In 1967, Colin Hay was 14 years old, traveling by ship through the Suez Canal from Scotland to Australia. He played some acoustic guitar, sang a song, and told some stories. He did that then, and he does that now.

This is the thread that runs through all his work for the last 25 years from the multi-platinum award-winning Men At Work, to the beloved solo acoustic release “Going Somewhere”, and the recently released CD. Transporting when he sings, hilarious when he talks, he expresses what we all share - the peaks and valleys of our lives. As the singer, guitarist, and main songwriter of Australia’s Men at Work, Colin Hay was responsible for penning several of the quirkiest pop hits of the early ’80s. In 1982, Men at Work issued their debut full-length, “Business as Usual”, earning comparisons to then-reigning chart kings The Police.

Men at Work quickly became MTV favorites. Since he was the group’s main singer and songwriter, Hay quickly became the focal point of the band, as such humorous videos for “Who Can It Be Now” and “Down Under” pushed the debut album to the top of the U.S. charts, making Men at Work an overnight sensation. Hay embarked on a solo career, debuting in 1987 with Looking for Jack, the title of which supposedly referred to a brief encounter Hay had with actor Jack Nicholson. The same decade, Hay also launched his own record label, Lazy Eye Records, and sporadically acted in cult movies and TV shows, including parts on such series as JAG, The Larry Sanders Show, and The Mick Molloy Show, among others.
